Hilton Head Island, SC – (November 2, 2023) – The 2024 short-term rental permit renewal period is now open for properties located within the Town of Hilton Head Island.

Owners of single-family residences, villas, and condominiums utilized for short-term rentals must have a permit. This requirement does not apply to timeshares.

If you currently hold a permit, you should have received a renewal notification from the Town's Revenue Services Department and its permit vendor, GovOS. All renewal applications must be submitted by December 31, 2023. To successfully renew your permit, follow these steps:

• Ensure you have your GovOS (short-term permit) account number readily available, as it is necessary to access the renewal application at this link: https://hiltonheadislandsc.munirevs.com/log-in/.

• If you don't have your short-term permit account number or need help navigating the website portal, please contact the Town's Revenue Services Department at 843-341-4740 or GovOS at 1-888-751-1911.

• If you haven't yet obtained a 2023 short-term rental permit, reach out to the Town's Revenue Services Department for guidance. You must secure the 2023 rental permit before applying for the 2024 rental permit.

• Please note that the short-term rental permit is separate from the annual business license, which is due by April 30, 2024. Information regarding the business license renewal will be provided in January 2024.

For a list of frequently asked questions about short-term rental or to learn more about the Town’s short-term rental initiative, visit www.hiltonheadislandsc.gov/short-termrentals/.

Get Ready for Reassessment
In the next few weeks, the Beaufort County Assessor's Office will be sending Beaufort County property owners a Reassessment Notice. A Countywide Reassessment resets the base value of a property to the current market value as of December 31st of the prior year.

We cannot stress enough how important this notice is as it contains your new value and an important deadline. Your Reassessment Notice will contain your new, reassessed value. Should you disagree with it and wish to appeal your value, you will only have 90 days from the date of the notice to do so.

Take some time now to familiarize yourself with the Assessor's process by reviewing their Reassessment Guide. If you have any questions, please contact the Assessor's Office at Assessor@bcgov.net or 843-255-2400.
